Counseling Resources

My name is Deb Miller, I am the school counselor at Akron Elementary School! The 2024-2025 school year will be my 24th year as Akron’s counselor. Before becoming a school counselor, I was a therapist at 4C for 2 ½ years working with children and adults. I graduated from Manchester College in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work with a minor in Psychology. In 1998 I graduated with my master’s in social work from Indiana University in Indianapolis. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I also have a School Social Worker license and a School Counselor license from the Indiana Department of Education.    

A little bit about me…My favorite color is blue, my favorite animal is a dolphin, I love to read, swim in my pool, take walks, and spend time with my family. I have 2 children- Allison, who is a teacher at Caston, and Gregory, who is a college student at IU Indianapolis. My husband, Brandon, is a graduate of Tippecanoe Valley. We have a Havanese dog named Buddy.    

 As a school counselor, my purpose is to support and assist all students with various needs that may arise. I will serve as an advocate for any student who may need support with their feelings, behavior, peers, academics, outside-of-school strains, and/or other obstacles that may arise. Various lessons and activities will be applied throughout the school year to enhance student growth.  

 As an employee of TVSC, I will be committed to our vision by doing whatever it takes to equip all students to be outstanding today, tomorrow, and beyond.  

 I will also abide by the TVSC mission by being committed to student success through the development of character, leadership, and literacy. 

 In addition, I will embrace the core values of collaboration, leadership, character, and achievement to positively support students.
